Sara's Monthly Project Update - August 2024

August is always a tricky knitting month, you never know what the weather will bring. Will it be too hot to knit with wool, will it be so hot that I can only cope with a cross stitch? Alas August 2024 has been a bit of a wash out in Warrington which means I have crocheted with merino, knitted mohair and spent lots of time on the sofa with both crafts.

King Cole Warm & Toastie

I’ve finished two things this month. The first is my King Cole Warm & Toastie  crocheted cardigan which is far too small for me! It’s my own fault. My tension is perfect but for some reason I made the second size which I should have realised would be too small. It looks great on a mannequin though.
It was a really easy project to make and it’s super speedy too.

Anker's Summer Shirt

The second is the Anker's Summer Shirt by Petite Knits. I love this so much. This is the second Petite Knits pattern I’ve used and they are amazing. Superbly written and really easy and effective. I made mine in King Cole Cottonsoft (Oyster) and it’s delicious. So much so that I have two more shades on my desk to make another one.

Flax Sweater

It has been a while but I’ve picked up my Tin Can Knits Flax again. I put this down last year and have no idea why – I only had the sleeves to do. I picked it up at the weekend and I’m back at it. This is the perfect first top-down sweater as the designers explain the process incredibly well. I am using James C Brett Croftland Aran which is such a beautiful yarn and a great price.

Metropolis Crochet Blanket

This is a top-secret project for my eldest daughter Scarlett. She will be going away to university in a few weeks and this is a blanket for her to take with her. It is also proof of her complete lack of interest in my crafting, I’ve been making it in front of her and she hasn’t even asked what it is!

I’m making the Rainbow Dots blanket, a Scheepjes pattern which uses a box of mini-Metropolis , a 4ply blend of merino and nylon. It’s such a great yarn for homeware as it’s hard wearing but incredibly soft to snuggle into. My crocheting has become a lot faster in this last week as we now have her moving in date – wish me luck in getting it finished in time.

Stylecraft Impressions and Grace Aran Tank Top

This is the project that I really shouldn’t be making. I didn’t need another WIP. However I fell in love at first sight. It blends two yarns that I love, Impressions Aran & the beautiful brushed Stylecraft Grace. Knitted on huge needles (I’m on a 9mm to get the right tension) it should take no time at all and the colour options are fab. I’m using bright pink Grace and making the round neck. I’ll update you next month.
