Season’s Greetings Festive Stocking - Hints & Tips

Section One – Hem

  1. Put a tray on your lap when threading beads. Then when you drop one it’s easy to find.
  2. Put the beads into small containers (like small jam jars) it makes them much easier to manage.
  3. Try not to cast on too tightly, as we are using smaller needles it can make it difficult to pull the yarn through.
  4. Use a post it note to mark where you are in the pattern.
  5. As the hem is on small needles for this weight of yarn it is a bit tricky, stick with it. It does get easier.
  6. Remember to change needles – it’s easy to miss it.

Fair Isle Section 1

  1.  Don’t panic! This is a very simple 10 stitch repeat. You never carry the yarn across more than four stitches so very little danger of pulling it too tight.
  2. Again, use washi tape or a post it note to mark where you are on the chart.
  3. Work the chart right to left for odd numbered rows and left to right for even.

Hooking in beads
This is tricky at first. Be patient, make sure you pull the whole stitch through and the yarn doesn’t split. Also make sure you do this over a tray, I dropped lots of beads at first!

Fairisle Section 2

I found this section a bit trickier. You need to strand your yarn across a maximum of 11 stitches, remember not to pull your floats too tight and catch your yarn loosely at the back.
I am not great at colourwork on a purl row and I confess my yarns got a little twisted at the back. Untwist them at the end of every row, it should only take a few seconds.

Beaded Heart Section
When threading the beads on for this section count, count and count again! However, once you have done this the section it is very easy and grows quickly. The rest of the sock is pretty much plain sailing and such a joy to make.

This pattern is only with us for three months until 18th February 2025. Choose from a kit including yarn, beads and pattern, paper pattern or digital pattern
