Staff Project: Colourwork Knitted Cardigan in Rowan Felted Tweed

Black Sheep Carmen is one speedy knitter. No sooner has a new project been cast on, she's sewing in her ends and wearing it! For winter Carmen knitted the 'Gully' cardigan from Rowan Magazine 74. The cardigan contrasts a plain shade of Rowan Felted Tweed with an ombre of colour from Rowan Felted Tweed Colour. Creating the illusion of multiple shades of yarn used. Carmen has chosen to finish off her cardigan with brass buttons, giving it a very chic almost French fashion house tweed jacket vibe. Have a read to see what Carmen had to say about her latest project.

Pattern name: Gully - Rowan Magazine 74
Yarn: Rowan Felted Tweed and Felted Tweed Colour
Shade number / name: 159 Carbon and 021 Blush
What size did you make? 36-38

How did you find the pattern? Did you make any adjustments?
I wouldn’t class it as TV knitting. It definitely needs concentration. The pattern is charted so it took time getting used to the stitch pattern. I didn’t make any adjustments apart from swapping the shades around.

Have you used this yarn before? How did you find it?
Yes, I love it! I previously made not one, but 3 projects all from Rowan Magazine 68 - Haymarket (sweater), Landscape (cardigan) and Adelphi (sweater). It won’t be the last thing I make in this yarn. It is a light yarn but very warm to wear.

Would you recommend the pattern to someone else? Would you make it again?
Yes, I would recommend this pattern. I like the outcome of the cardigan, it’s a beautiful garment. Perhaps I would use two solid colours if I made it again.
