Staff Project: Puff Sleeve Knitted Top in Rowan Kidsilk Haze and Summerlite DK

Black Sheep Amy has knitted the brightest (almost neon) shade of pink into a beautiful puff sleeve top. Knitted in the fluffiest and most fabulous - Rowan Kidsilk Haze. Held together with a strand of white cotton - Rowan Summerlite DK. Let's see what she has to say about knitting the garment.

How did you find the pattern? Did you make any adjustments?

I found the pattern an absolute pleasure to follow. It was a really enjoyable knit, from the moment I cast on. It had very little shaping so lots of good TV knitting for the main part. I was slightly surprised with how big the sleeves are, but then it is a puff sleeve and is quite a long, short sleeve. I thought once I had knitted the front and back, I’ve “only” got the sleeves to do. Little did I know they were to be almost the size of a front/ back panel.

Have you used this yarn before? How did you find it?

I have used both yarns separately before but never knitted with them held together. I am a sucker for Rowan Kidsilk Haze and have made many garments using this. I am always admiring the colour selection and imagining many projects knitted up. The chance to blend it with cotton was one I didn’t want to miss. They work up beautifully together. I went for an extreme contrast in shades which created a lovely haze of pink on the white background. I had previously knitted a pink/white hat (688 Sweet) combination of Kidsilk Haze years ago which inspired my choice.

Would you recommend the pattern to someone else? Would you make it again?

Yes, definitely! I’d say go for it. The only thing I found a little tricky was sewing in the puff sleeve at the top. You need to gather up as you sew the seam to create the puff. I have already inspired Black Sheep Tracey to knit her own gorgeous turquoise version of the Elyna top after seeing mine on display.
I am already contemplating which colour combination I could do next. I initially swatched a few options of Kidsilk Haze with white before I settled on a pink / white combination, maybe one of those could be next?

Describe the fit of your finished garment

It fits perfectly, just how I hoped it would. It goes on easily over my head and the length of the jumper and sleeves are great.
