Staff Project: Sunday Sweater by PetiteKnit in Lang Yarns Orion
Black Sheep Sara has knitted a jumper that could quite well be up there as one of her favourite knits, ever! When a yarn inspires a project and then both the yarn and pattern come together just how you wished, oh it really is something to shout about. As we write this Sara has already cast on a second Sunday sweater!
Pattern number / name: Sunday Sweater by PetiteKnit (Ravelry pattern)
Yarn: Lang Yarns Orion Chunky
Shade number / name: 005
What size did you make? XL
How did you find the pattern? Did you make any adjustments?
I found the pattern on Ravelry after falling in love with the yarn. I wanted an everyday sweater, I’d wear all the time and the Sunday Sweater fitted that brief. It is designed by Petite Knit, a well-known designer who I’d used before so I knew the pattern could be trusted too.
It is knitted top down, which I have only done once before. However, the pattern explains everything beautifully so it was really easy to follow. It is a really quick knit and the pattern is easy to do and you can memorise it in no time.
I made a couple of length adjustments; I made the sleeves shorter and the body a bit longer.
Have you used this yarn before? How did you find it?
I first spotted it at H&H, the international hand knitting trade show in Germany last March. It stopped me in my tracks. It is the sublime Orion from Lang Yarns.
I’ve been looking for a variegated brushed chunky for a while and this one is delicious. It is a really light, air spun and a super soft blend of 88% merino and 12% nylon. The colours are gorgeous and I knew straight away we had to stock it.
Would you recommend the pattern to someone else? Would you make it again?
I love it! I’ve worn it so much. It took three balls of yarn for the XL so not too expensive either! One of the joys of this pattern is you can use any chunky yarn. I am dying to see one in Marble Chunky!
Anything else you would like to say about it?
I loved making this sweater – so much so I am now knitting it again in a different colour.
Sara is already knitting away on her second Sunday Sweater in shade: 006, deeper tones of green, blue, brown and purple. To be continued.....
