I fell in love with this sweater on our October 2024 Knitting Retreat. My co-host, and one of my favourite people, Sarah Daly brought it with her. I tried it on and was smitten. The Tweedy Stripey is a free download on Ravelry and designed by Leslie Weber. She does brilliant simple shapes and incredible colour choice perfectly. I added it to my library and mulled over colour choice.

A few weeks later we got the stunning Felted Tweed Colour into clearance. This is such a great yarn. I love the normal Felted Tweed and have used it a lot, the Felted Tweed Colour is even nicer. The colour changes in this yarn are beautiful and paired with a plain complimenting colour it works really well.

The pattern was really well written. It wasn’t a pattern in the traditional sense, it is more a guide of how Leslie made it. It was incredibly clear and easy to follow with hints and tips given too. The instructions are for one size only but the designer explains how to make it larger.

There were some very clever techniques included in this design. You use a three needle bind off at the shoulders. I have never done this before and I am a convert. It is so neat!

You also do the neck shaping on the purl side and knit the first two stitches together. This creates a really neat line with no gaps. However my favourite thing of all was picking up for the sleeves, Leslie gives you the maths behind it. Pick up three out of every four stitches – I picked up the right number first time without using stitch markers!

It’s an incredibly easy knit and if I had remained monogamous I would have flown through it. I think it has taken me about two months with lots of distractions in between.

I have wet blocked it and it is now drying. I promise to show you before and after photos.

Watch Sara's blocking video on our YouTube channel. It really shows the difference blocking can make.
