Sara's Monthly Project Update - October 2022
It feels like it has been a slow month for me this month. October is the month of the Knitting & Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace and this always throws me off kilter for a while. The planning and preparation for the show steals valuable knitting & crochet time from me, then the exhaustion when we get home is a killer. Because of this I have concentrated on a few very easy projects.
Granny Square Blanket
This is such a stunning project and super easy! All I could manage for the first few days after the show was a granny square. I needed the soothing movement of my hook and easy trebles, allowing the beautiful colours of James C Brett Marble Chunky (MC45) to do the work. Marble Chunky is, as the name suggests, a standard chunky meaning it will crochet up really quickly. I started with 4 chains, joined into a loop and created a standard Granny Square and just kept going.
My intention is for this to be a snuggly blanket for the sofa, perfect for Winter nights. I have so far used three balls and think it will take five balls in total, at £6.50 per ball this will give me a blanket for £32.50! I am going to finish each corner with a chunky tassel. The finished result will be stunning and will be launched as a free pattern.
Bonjour Hi Cowl
Halfway through the month I went to the Great Northern Textile Show in Manchester with my friend Sarah. This is a new show and we had a lovely few hours chatting to exhibitors and making a couple of purchases obviously!
Sarah (as always) turned up in the most incredible piece of knitwear, the ‘Bonjour Hi’ shoulder cowl from Espace Tricot (free on Ravelry)– wow, wow, wow! It is the perfect Autumnal warmer and great for using up a few balls from your stash. The pattern asks for one ball of 4ply (fingering) sock yarn and two balls of silk mohair so I have used one ball of Schoppel Crazy Zauberball (shade: 2429) and two balls of Rowan Kidsilk Haze. I have been waiting for an excuse to use a Zauberball and this was the perfect project for it.
It is such an easy pattern. Knitted in the round with simple shaping it was an easy make to get lost in and I had it finished in about five days. I love it so much that I have already cast on another one this time using Kidsilk Haze (shade:700) alongside Fyberspates Vivacious 4 ply (shade:109).
Mindless Knit Scarf
This was the project I took with me to Ally Pally. I have made so many of these over the years, it is a great project for when you don’t want to think and perfect car or van knitting.
This time I am using Rico Essentials Baby Alpaca and Merino Aran, £8.99 for a 50g ball. This is such a stunning yarn, super soft and the colours are delightful. As this is in Aran I have cast on fewer stitches, just 33, and I knitted until the end of each ball. I picked three colours very reminiscent of Neapolitan ice cream. I am now on the last colour so hopefully I will finish it this weekend. I am then going to pop a Trimits Pom-Pom on each end.
